When in Baden-Württemberg, the Black Forest, Schwarzwald in German, is a must-see!

Having once served as a setting for the Brothers Grimm fairy tales, the Black Forest is an immense mountainous area of 6,000 km2 in southwest Germany. Known for its dense canopy of evergreens and picturesque lakes, the Black Forest is a hidden gem of Das Land der Dichter und Denker — the country of poets and thinkers.

There is more than a thing or two to do in the Black Forest. If you are looking for a nice, family, or solo activity — whether you are a hiking god or the laziest person on earth, you can get on top of the Black Forest by taking the treetop walk on the Sommerberg in Bad Wildbad.

Taking the Treetop Walk of Baumwipfelpfad Schwarzwald will allow you to wonder at the beauty of the flora surrounding you. Fresh, pure air will fill your lungs, and you will immediately feel yourself free of all the stress of your daily life. You will cross a bridge for about 15 minutes (depending on your pace) from the entry (fee: 11€), and then reach the forest playground (kids will love it!), right next to the Treetop Walk Tower.

The 40 meters high tower stands tall and proud with its unique spiral shape: an unusual architecture, but a subtle integration with the natural surroundings.

Once you reach the view tower’s platform, you will feast your eyes on the unique view of the Black Forest; you can see the Swabian Alb, the Kraichau, and the Stuttgart television tower. Mere words and all the pictures in the world would not make this place any justice! It is truly a place to be.

After marveling at the beauty around you and taking billions of pictures, it is time for some well deserved childish fun; the 55-meter tunnel slide! With only 2€, anyone can slide his way down the tower with a big smile on his face.

Down in the forest, you can hike, take a long walk, watch your children play, picnic or simply unwind and take in all the panoramic landscapes.

So if you’re planning your next vacation or just looking to get away on the weekend, make plans to visit Baumwipfelpfad Schwarzwald.
